As we move into the cooler weather of autumn, now is a great time to do a quick inventory of the necessary parts in your bowling center. You can avoid critical breakdowns by having key parts on hand.

Maintaining a supply of belts for your pinsetters and lane machine is important. Both pieces of equipment are critical for a great bowling experience. Keep at least 1 of each belt in your inventory. Belts that wear more quickly will require more inventory. A good practice is to check any belts you purchase. Mix-ups happen, and it is frustrating to grab a belt from the shelf only to find it is the wrong size.

Springs are another part that is important to maintaining your bowling center. Pinsetters use a variety of springs, and each is designed for a specific purpose. One of each would be a minimum.

Electrical components are the heart of good running lane machines and pinsetters. Keep at least 1 of each relay. Many relays look similar but have different ratings. Always confirm that you have the correct relay for the application.

Keep a supply of fuses on hand. Fuses protect your machine from power surges and short circuits. Always use the correct fuse! Using an incorrect fuse can damage the lane machine or pinsetter. Many fuses look the same, label the box or bag with the fuse information.

Your lane machine most likely contains filters for both the conditioner and cleaner tanks. A spare filter can help diagnose any output problems. Many recovery tanks also contain filters. If it becomes clogged, the cleaning of the lane will be affected.

A spare set of squeegee blades is a good thing to have available. A small tear in a blade will leave streaks on the lane.

Of course, major assemblies should be kept on hand. Examples are motors and gearbox assemblies for your pinsetters. A spare vacuum assembly or cushion roller for your lane machine.

The best-running centers in the world all have great inventory systems. This allows them to plan for any possible situation that might arise. Spare parts help ensure that you will be ready for any situation.

Fall is the time of year to get the parts on the shelf and give yourself some piece of mind while sipping a pumpkin spice latte.
