Seasons are changing - get the winter equipment ready

I am certain that a lot of you read this title and scratched your head. Let me explain……Everyone attributes something particular to the changing of the seasons. If we are talking about the dynamics of the US, in the many parts of the country the changing of the leaves signals the start of fall is upon us and winter is on its heels. For those of us in the warmer parts of the country, it is the abundance of cold weather license plates on our highways that signals the same thing. In bowling, the end of Bowl Expo and the beginning of regional trade shows is comparative to the leaves falling and winter being just around the corner.

As you know, Bowl Expo wrapped up a few weeks ago and regional trade events will be continuing both this month and the next before bowlers hit the lanes for the 2021-2022 season. With this being said, we have been talking about maintenance to your pinsetters over the last 3 months and we hope the “Hot Sheets” we have provided have been useful and are now proudly printed and hanging in your shops.

Naturally, in the progression of our series regarding maintenance one would assume Lane Machines would be the finale and you would be correct, but there is no “Hot Sheet” for the machines this month. Your lane machine is one of, if not the most important piece of equipment in your bowling center. Let’s think about it this way. If a pinsetter has a major malfunction, you have to send home or move 1 pair of people. Typically when I visit centers, the shops have most of the parts needed to fix about anything on a pinsetter, so down time is probably limited to that specific league session. If your lane machine goes down however, you have now upset EVERY pair in the center and hopefully you have the parts to limit it to that specific league session.

There are many ways to minimize your risk exposure to this, such as cleaning your machine daily so you can spot potential problems before they become actual problems and doing your weekly, monthly, and semi annual maintenance checks. One of the best kick starters to this is rebuilding your lane machine just before your league season starts, and that time is here. Typically when I am asked what to replace before doing a yearly overhaul, I recommend a Tune-Up Kit. One part number gets you a box that has everything you know you need, and some stuff you probably didn’t know you needed. We have included all of our Tune-Up Kits below along with their contents and hope this is another reference you can add to your growing collection.

We hope to see you out on the road over the next few months at the regional shows, and remember……Take care of ALL of your machines, and they will take care of you.
